This is the magnificent pre dreadnaught battleship ‘Massena’ These amazing vessels, straight out of Jules Verne novel, even had a reinforced ramming prow!
So, what’s all this about? Being a Portlander, I was brought up looking out to sea, and into the harbour, at all the grey ships. Overhead, there were Wessex 5s, Whirlwinds, Sea Kings, Wasps. Sometimes a Lynx, or the odd Buccaneer or Canberra. All this gave me a lifelong interest into military machines, especially historically. Also checkout my Facebook page..
